Netherlands - Late 19th century
|Object:||milk cooker from Burgerziekenhuis Amsterdam|
|Estimated Period:||Late 19th century|
|Country of Origin:||Netherlands|
|Condition:||Fair condition - heavily used & with possibly minor parts missing|
This milk cooker was present in the kitchen of the Burgerziekenhuis on the Linnaeus Street in Amsterdam. My grandfather, Cornelis Borst alias Rooie Nelis, worked here in the late 60s and the early 70s as a handyman for the contractors firm Sibbel. At that time, during a major renovation, the entire kitchen was modernized, and the original decoration was demolished. My grandfather rescued this original milk cooker and brought it home, where it has been serving as a flowerpot for over 50 years. The milk cooker is very likely to have been installed in 1891 the civilian hospital during construction.
This is an unique historical object, which is currently catching dust. I hope the buyer buys this milk cooker, with the intention of respecting its particular historical value. The milk cooker just deserves a better place than in a box in the attic!
