Between 1925 and 1927, he studied at the Art Academy of Dresden under Otto Dix. From 1928 to 1930 he was a lecturer at the Academy of Arts Dresden. From 1929 he was a member of the association of revolutionary artists, worked as a press cartoonist for the ‘Rote Fahne’, ‘die Arbeiterstimme’, ‘die Rentenquetsche’ and ‘den Stoß von links’. Naumann was arrested by the Nazis in 1934, from 1939 to 1943 he was assigned to a punishment battalion. After 1945, he was a poster and advertising designer in Dresden.
