Van Gilst painted in a
Naturalistic-Impressionist style. Much of his work, especially the landscapes, are reminiscent of those by Cor Noltee. Van Gilst was a real outdoor painter. He definitively wanted being inspired by the environment and prefer going to a remote place where not every time someone could pop up and watch with over his shoulders. Van Gilst rather would nestle at the side of a ditch to paint the fields on the other side which he would first depict very recognizable and detailed to later fade them a bit during the finishing.
The whole is in excellent condition.
Clearly signed with A van Gilst at the bottom left.
Image: 48 x 68 cm.
