Tiffany‘s Art Deco Ladies‘ Watch, Steel and Gold, Movement by Movado, 1940s
This authentic and truly beautiful vintage ladies‘ wrist watch bears the hallmark of Tiffany & Co on its bicolour silver/gold polished dial. It significantly retains its original beautiful round winding crown.
It encases a traditional hand-winding mechanical movement manufactured by the renowned Swiss watch company Movado from the 1940s. The dial is also marked “anti-magnetic” an innovative feature of the period . It features a substantial upper gold case-layer, gold hands including a central second red-tipped indicator and the full twelve beautiful gold Arabic hour-markers also. The case itself made of steel has a waterproof screw-down back which bears two engravings namely “Movado Factories Switzerland” signature and a three letter owner’s inscribed monogram. The case is numbered on the lug 4242 which might also identify the movement’s ébauche.
The watch is remarkably well-preserved physically almost appearing as an old-new stock and in a fine working order keeping the time accurately well within the tolerances expected of vintage mechanical time-pieces. It has a blue crocodile leather band made by the Chopard in Geneva and marked “cousu mains.
