Beautiful early 17th century Kangxi Imari Plate (1) - Imari - Porcelain - China - Kangxi (1662-1722)
Very beautiful mid 17th century (1662–1678), early Kangxi period Imari plate. Very richly decorated and covered with gold. The back is also decorated with flowers in blue and red. Also marked with a double blue ring around the foot and in the middle of the foot-rim with the Kangxi double ringmark.
Before 1678, the current six-character Kangxi reign mark was not allowed to be used on porcelain ware because of superstition. A broken porcelain piece with the current reign mark would bring bad luck to the new dynasty. That's why Kangxi marked his ware with symbols like flowers, animals, leaves, or just two blue rings. This plate was made before 1678, in the early Kangxi period.
Condition:
Some fritting/chips and one hairline crack (see picture 17). The pictures show the condition of the plate.
