Wally Elenbaas was a well-known Rotterdam artist. In the 1930s he was a photographer. He was a member of the working-writers-collective "Links Richten" and moved in the artistic circle of, a.o., Paul Schuitema. He wanted to use his photography as a weapon in class struggle. In the 1940s he focused on painting and graphic art. He was involved in the ‘Venstergroep’. Later he also focused on monumental art. His work is represented in the collections of, a.o., Museum Boijmans, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and MOMA New York.
