Eileen Gray - ClassiCon - Armchair (1) - Bibendum

Offered in very good condition: original world-renowned Classicon armchair. Version: high-quality leather in the colour black with a chrome-plated steel frame. Numbered - engraving including originality card. The ClassiCon Bibendum Armchair (1926) is a design by Eileen Gray. At the start of her career, Eileen specialised in lacquer work. After the First World War, she was commissioned to design the interior of a French hat maker's shop. She not only provided the store with lacquered wall panels but also designed the furniture, including the world-famous Bibendum Armchair. This job marked her major breakthrough and the Bibendum chair is seen as one of the most innovative and recognisable furniture designs of the 20th century. The name Bibendum is derived from the figure used by tire manufacturer Michelin, also known as the Michelin man. The similarity between the two is obvious: the convex, round backrest and seat say enough. The interior of the armchair is made of beech wood and it has a rubber band suspension that carries the cushion, which is filled with polyurethane foam and cotton wool. The iconic armchair is best known in leather. Original price: €6,000.00 Pick-up or (worldwide) delivery after consultation.
