Gaetano Vitale (1923) - Busto Maschile di un vecchio uomo

Male bust of an old man, placed inside a precious Baroque gilt frame. The oil painting comes with the artist's nameplate. Created for the occasion of his London exhibition, this work is one of his greatest masterpieces. G. Vitale specialized in making busts, both male and female. This work, rich in pathos and emotions, succeeded in stopping time, in that very moment when the artist painted this old man. Gaetano Vitale was born in Cava dei Tirreni in 1923, and attended the Art College. He was a member of the Guglielmo Marconi Academy as well as of the Tiberina Academy. An innate painter, heir of realist figurative painting along with Tafuri, his companion in art, both repository of that 19th-century art to which Southern artists are linked for their inborn inclination. Solo exhibitions: - Rome, 1940; - Amalfi, 1942; - Salerno, 1945; - London, 1950. Group exhibitions: - Salerno, 1937; - Florence, 1941; - London, 1952; - Madrid, 1960; - Rome, 1971. Awards: - 1st prize at Luc. di Arezzo painting award, 1967; - Silver medal at Naples painting award, 1968; - 1st prize at Salerno Extemporary, 1970; - Prize of merit at Guglielmo Marconi Universal National Academy award, Rome, 1971.
