In the landscapes of Bernard van Beek, tonality and atmosphere are very important. He was influenced by the painters of The Hague School and especially by Gabriel, for whom he had great admiration. From 1911 onwards, Van Beek moved from Amsterdam to Kortenhoef, where the beauty of the lake district became his most important subject. Sometimes he went behind the church with his little rowing boat to paint water lilies, whether or not with peat dykes, Kortenhoef in the distance. This painter also did some cityscapes.
