Thomas van Wissen was a pupil at the Academy in the Hague and was taught by the painters Stortenbeken, Nakken and Verlat. He lived much of his life in his place of birth the Hague, but also in Antwerp and in Veur. He was a follower of the Hague school and painted many landscapes around the Hague. However, he got his greatest fame came from heath views, which he made near Garderen and Lunteren. He is listed in the P. Scheen Lexicon, Mak van Waay Lexicon, P.M. Jacobs Lexicon and Quick Lexicon. Signed Th v. WisSen sr. Name varieties: Wislen, Th. van. The second S in the signature is sometimes incorrectly read as an L. Packaged with care for registered shipping.
