Hans Rhodius - Schönheit und Reichtum des Lebens Walter Spies - 1964
Walter Spies (1895-1942) was a Russian-born German painter, choreographer, writer and photographer. In 1923 he settled on Java and in 1927 he moved to Ubud on the island of Bali. Spies was one of the founders of the Pita Maha Artisten Coöp. and, thus, formed the basis for the development of Balinese art. As a German, Spies was interned and deported to Ceylon in 1942.
The ship was sunk by the Japanese Navy, killing Spies.
Condition: the book is in fine condition, no folds or tears. But the dust jacket is missing. The first owner wrote a memory on the half title page and glued 2 small newspaper cuttings about Spies and the musician Bernhard IJzerdraat in the book.
