Beautiful copper-struck brass rose
Signed Van Boeckel
Louis (Lodewijk or Lode) Van Boeckel (1857-1944) was a Belgian art-smith.
With his successful participation in the Rubens competition exhibition, his fame really grew. In 1900 he won the highest distinction at the Paris World Exhibition.
Van Boeckel designed mainly ornamental objects, often decorated with flowers and animals, but also chandeliers, banisters, fences, signboards and bas-reliefs. His work belongs to the romantic period. He had great success in life; he was commissioned for the balustrades of the National Bank of Athens and the White House. He made large cathedral gates for South America: Buenos Aires, among others.
Some of his most famous works are in the museum Timmermans-Opsomerhuis in Lier.
