A very collectable old dumpy bottle of Highland Park 12 y.o.

From before The Edrington Group took over Highland Park distillery in 1999. In those days, whisky-reviewer Michael Jackson named Highland Park "The greatest all-rounder in the world of malt whisky." The distillery has been rising to fame since. It's one of the few distilleries that still malts their own barley using local Orkney-peat.

Through the last two decades unfortunately, whisky-connoisseurs have noted a decline in quality of the classic 12 y.o.
Over the years, Highland Park increased production and started to buy more-and-more malt from independent maltsters. Nowadays, the amount of their own peat-dried malt used is down to only 20%. Also, back in the 1980s when this was distilled, more and better Sherry casks were used.
Together with the higher production this resulted in a 'thinner' and less smoky whisky today, making this older bottle very much sought-after.

Michael Jackson's original tasting notes:
Nose: Smoky, "garden bonfire" sweetness, heathery, malty, hint of sherry.
Palate: Exceptionally smooth. Succulent, with smoky dryness, heathery-honey sweetness and maltiness.
Finish: Teasing, heathery, delicious.
