3 Beautiful vintage bed warmers, also called bedpans. The bed warmer has a nicely shaped wooden stem. The stew itself has a pan of red copper and a lid of yellow copper. A bedpan or bed warmer is an old-fashioned (almost antique) utensil. In earlier times, they were used for heating the bed in the winter, because hot water bottles didn’t exist at that time. Nowadays still very suitable as decoration. A bed warmer consists of a flat round iron or copper pan with a hinged lid with some ventilation holes. A long metal or wooden handle is attached to the pan. The pan could be filled with hot stones, boiling water or glowing coals. Putting the latter between the sheets, however, was not without risk. The bed warmer looks like a frying pan, but with an extra long handle and the aforementioned lid. This lot will be shipped in an extra large package due to its size.
