Jan Laeven - Limburgs bloemen landschap

The artist Jan Laeven (1925-2001) joined the DSM Information Service in 1951 as a draughtsman/illustrator. From 1964 onwards, he began started having troubles with his health. At home in his studio and on location in nature he painted, therapeutical, almost 1500 works. In 1971, the DSM calendar was entirely devoted to his work. Thirty of his paintings of half-timbered houses and forest landscapes of Limburg are now auctioned especially for everyone, not just employees and retirees of DSM in the month of June of the year 2015. Jan Laeven, educated at the High School of Arts in Maastricht (now the Academy of Fine Arts) was a formidable artisan. He mastered almost all drawing and painting techniques and styles. Laeven painted predominantly romantic-realistic, but also impressionistic, expressionist, cubist, and modernistic. Although he also painted portraits, industrial landscapes and abstract compositions, his preference was on subjects from nature: bouquets and especially half-timbered houses and forest landscapes in Limburg.
