LA VUE DE DRAMMEN
- prise d'une androit nomme' kobberviigs = clev -
Micro-embroidery in silk, partially painted, of exceptional quality, dating back to the early 800s, depicting a view of Drammen, in the county of Buskerud in Norway.
The canvas has its original antique wooden stretcher. The embroidery is very fine down to the smallest detail and some parts of the foreground are three-dimensional. The sky and the faces of the characters are painted; the villages with the typical wooden houses of the time, the woods, the cultivated fields, the boats in the fjord, etc. are depicted in detail.
There is a small flaw on the upper left in the sky.
The frame and passepartout are of hight quality but not coeval, they were made in Florence in the 50s. Small chips.
Dimensions: wooden stretcher 47.5 x 42 cm, frame 65.5 x 52 cm.
There is a print, dating back to the end of the 18th century, with the same name and depicting the same landscape, preserved in the Dremmen museum. The work is by the author Hans Joan Jacob Georg. See last photo.
From a private collection.
The photos are part of the description.
The twin embroidery, with title -Vue de Bocstad- was also auctioned. Should the buyer win both works, they will have to pay for a single shipment.
