Very minimal craquelure. In antique basswood frame. Frederick Henry (Frits) Mondriaan (The Hague, 16 April 1853 – Yonder, 16 December, 1932) was a Dutch amateur painter and uncle of the famous painter Piet Mondriaan. He was the son of William Frederick Mondriaan, whom he succeeded in his The Hague barber, perfume and wig maker business. He also was a house painter. Frits started serious painting ca. 1885. He mostly painted landscapes in the style of the Haagse School. He regularly visited his brother Pieter Cornelis in Winterswijk, where he helped the young Piet Mondriaan with his drawing studies. Around 1905, he also gave lessons to the American artist Theresa van Raalte. He married Josephine Marie Destrée (1854-1932), with whom he had at least one son who reached who reached adulthood, the shopkeeper Frederic Henry Mondriaan. (Source: Wikipedia.)
