Two ‘bark’ vases. 1) Kingfisher-blue bark vase ‘Whitefriars’ from the 1960s. The vase has a wonderful crystal clear base and a bark structure with a blue body. It is 19 cm tall and has a diameter of roughly 5 cm. 2) Ruby red bark funnel-shaped vase. With a crystal clear base and bark structure with a ruby red body. It is 26 cm tall and has a diameter of approx. 9.5 cm. Whitefriars glass was founded in 1834 and closed its doors in 1980, and was considered the Wedgwood of glass. Geoffrey Baxter (1922-1995) joint White Friars in 1954 and worked there until 1980. Baxter is one of the most renowned glass designers in England and was one of the best in the postwar period.
