beautiful large English rum jar from the first world war - pottery
A very nice big old jenever jug.
Equipped with ear for carrying.
With inscription: GOODWIN TIDSWELL, Ltd
MANCHESTER
Used to be filled with rum and handed out to the soldiers. The contents of these war jugs are in most cases 1 English gallon (4.546 litres)
The contents of these jugs had to be divided among 64 people in 1914 and this once a week.
A soldier was therefore entitled to 7 cl rum per week and it was certainly not enough to stay warm.
This jug is bigger and probably double in content.
In perfect condition, free from breaks or cracks.
Height: 45 cm.
Diameter jug: 24 cm.
For the collector and very decorative!
Will be carefully packaged and sent by insured mail.
