Cruise ship SS France 1960 in display cabinet with plexiglass.
Scale 1: 200
From 1960 to 1974, the SS France was the flagship of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique and built by Chantiers de l ́Atlantique shipyard in Saint/Nazaire, France and entered active service in February 1962.
At the time of completion, it was the longest passenger ship ever built with 316 metres in length, a record it retained until 2004, when the RMS Queen Mary 2 took over with 345 meters.
The ship combined the transatlantic crossing in 5 days with periodic winter cruises, in recent years employed by CGT, the crossings were extended to 6 days to save fuel.
The SS France was sold in 1979 to the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) which turned her into SS Norway and thoroughly remodelled it to be better equipped to its task as a cruise ship.
In 2006, the SS Norway was sold for demolition that was completed at the end of 2008.
