Volvo 122 Amazon 60th Anniversary steering wheel - Amazon - 1960-1970

Volvo Amazon 60th Anniversary steering wheel. Beautiful butterfly steering wheel in very good original condition. Can be used for different models from the 60 / 70s. Condition: Very nice with minimal user traces on the edge, its not discoloured and there are no cracks. Complete with its horn button (see all images). Diameter: 430 mm. The Volvo Amazon was designed by Jan Wilsgaard and introduced to the public on 1 September 1956, but delivery did not commence until March 1957. It was meant as the successor of the popular Volvo PV444, but turned out to be too expensive to be regarded as such. The PV444 had a reputation as being a cheap “car of the people” and was therefore replaced by an “intermediate model”, the PV544. In October 1965, the “Favorit” was released, a “stripped-down version” of the Amazon, that would end up replacing the PV544. Passive safety was (and still is) valued by Volvo as very important and the Amazon, together with the PV544, was one of the first cars that came with 3-point safety belts and a lined dashboard as standard features. The car is known as very reliable and strong. Of the 297,000 copies that were sold in Sweden now only 35,000 registered vehicles remain and it is presumed that only 15,000 are still in use [1]. The production ended in 1970 and the model was succeeded by the Volvo 140-series. Since 1961, mechanical parts of the Amazon, like the engine, gearbox and axles as well as the modified bottom plate were used for the sports model made by Volvo, the Volvo P1800. Will be carefully packaged and sent by registered mail.
