Produced by Bowie and producer Tony Visconti with Roxy Music synthesizer player Brian Eno, the albums' collective name derives from Bowie's primary residence during the epoch. Low and "Heroes" were recorded at Hansa Studios in Berlin, nicknamed "Hansa by the Wall" for its proximity to the imposing structure that divided West from East Berlin. Bowie reflected this trilogy (and the single ""Heroes""), calling them his "DNA". To escape the drug scene in L.A., Bowie and wife Angela headed for Europe;after stops in Switzerland and France, Bowie settled in Berlin. The next three years would be one of Bowie’s most productive periods; he recorded a trio of albums that became known as his Berlin Trilogy. Low and Heroes debuted in 1977, and Lodger two years later.
