Rare and historical advertising sign!
Belgam, like Belga, was a brand of tobacco manufacturer Vander Elst from Belgium.
After the First World War, the brothers Alphonse and François Vander Elst launched a brand that Belgians could be proud of.
The new brand was named after the then currency Belga, exactly the price of a pack. In 1941, Belga was for a time taken off the market by the German occupiers because of its patriotic character.
The name BelgAm (Belgium-America) was introduced after the Second World War in honor of the American liberators and the resulting cooperation. (See last photo)
Belga was eventually replaced by Lucky Strike.
