|Object:||A George III tea box with brass frames|
|Material:||Brass, Mahogany, Paper|
|Country of Origin:||England|
|Condition:||Good condition - used with small signs of aging & blemishes|
This 18th century tea caddy was manufactured during the Georige III period around 1770. The tea caddy is made of oak and mahogany and glued with mahogany veneer. The tea caddy is decorated with sawed brass ornaments, key entrance (presumably from a later date) and handle on the lid. In addition to the original fittings, the hinges and lock are also original, unfortunately a working key is missing. On the inside once had partitions and/or trays. This supposedly became incomplete and in the second half of the 19th century the inside is lined with the present beautiful marbled paper. On the right side and the back of the lid there is an old and well executed restoration to the veneer. The bottom is lined with a dark green fabric. All brass details have gotten a beautiful patina over the centuries. The entire tea caddy has a rich warm orange-brown colour, patina and a beautiful silk sheen due to the authentic wax finish!
