The cultivation of rare orchids and other beautiful garden flowers and plants.
Lavishly illustrated with at least 13 hand-coloured plates by nineteenth century artist, Alfred Adlard and also black and white engravings in the text. All signed at the bottom.
The book is undated but thought to have been published in 1847.
Comprehensive dictionary of fruit and vegetables at the back.
Very nicely bound in dark green leather with decorative marbling to the front. Gilt lettering on the spine. Leather bumped on the corners otherwise the cover is very well preserved for a book of this great age, the spine is good and all the pages are secure. Decorated page edges. Two in Roman numerals on the spine.
Slight foxing on some pages, see photos.
Some rubbed out pencil writing faintly seen on inside cover and writing on first page ‘For Avril, because she is going away, from Charles’.
