At Nissan, the name Patrol dates back to the early 1950s and invariably refers to the 4X4 of the Japanese manufacturer's range. In 1988, Nissan released a GR (for Grand Raid) version of its Patrol. This one is more modern, more comfortable, larger and swaps its blade suspensions for springs. It features a manual rear deck differential lock and a new turbo diesel block. The Patrol GR will have a very good commercial career that will continue in competition, on tracks all over the world. In Paris-Dakar, the Normandy dealer André Dessoude, nicknamed "The Sorcerer of Saint-Lô" will turn it into a war machine by winning the category "series vehicles" several times.
