Johan Hendrik Doeleman was born on 5 March 1848 in Rotterdam and died in Voorburg on May 10, 1913. He wasn’t artistically educated and can be considered self-taught. From 1877, he was a teacher at the drawing Academy in Rotterdam.

He initially worked in the vicinity of Haastrecht and from 1899 especially in The Hague. His favourite subjects were rural, forest and dune landscapes.

His way of painting classifies him as a sort of epigone / follower of the Hague School and occasionally painted with some of the well-known painters of the Hague School, such as Willem Maris. The artists Friedrich Hubert Ernst Bickenese and Leo Oosthout were his grateful students. Also a member of the society Pulchri Studio in The Hague.

Qualitatively it is a very detailed watercolour. Often stored away from light, this means that the colours have remained clear.
Watercolours by Doeleman are rarely offered.

The photos are a part of the description.

Several of his works are located in Dutch and foreign museums.
