Over the next centuries the basic quadrant remained realtively unchanged until 1618. In that year, mathematician Edmund Gunter rediesigned the quadrant, engaraving a stereographic projection of a part of the equator, ecliptic, the tropics and the horizon onto the plane of the equator.
