Extraordinary life-size reliquary bust of a Holy Bishop - Baroque - Gilt and polychromed wood - 17th century

An impressive, magnificent reliquary bust of a holy bishop, possibly the Holy Remigius, Bishop of Reims. According to the testimony of Gregory of Tours, he baptised Clovis I, his two sisters Abboflede and Lantechilde, and about 3000 Frankish warlords on Christmas Day of 496. The bust is life-size and the saint wears a beautiful embroidered chasuble and mitre whose decorations are partly carved in wood, partly in stucco work, but all gold-plated with gold leaf. The bust is very finely finished all around, so that the sculpture must have been completely detached and so that it could possibly be worn in a procession too. In the hollow inside, closed with a detachable back plate, original relics of the saint were probably present. Traces of wear especially at the top left; Once there was woodworm, but it's been gone for a long time (see pictures).
