2nd half 20th century - Excellent condition, barely used with minimal signs of wear

Object: Gift for happy marriage new Queen
Ethnic group/ culture: Tikar, Lualwa
Region/ country: Cameroon
Material: Wood
Period: 2nd half 20th century
Condition: Excellent condition, barely used with minimal signs of wear
Sold with stand: No
Dimensions: 26×10×12 cm
Weight: 730 g

This particular piece of West African art is made to give to a princess or new queen for a long and happy marriage. The face is stately and angular, large ears and a high worked up hairstyle in the middle of the head. This way of woodworking can be seen more often at the Tikar tribe.

The neck is elegantly lined with homemade rope of a kind of reed.
4 faces were created around the neck from one piece of wood. This provided protection for the Queen from all four sides.

The South African art dealer (friend) from who I bought it, bought it in Cameroon as early as 1999, see photos at the bottom of the piece. The last 2 digits refer to the purchase year.
Take a good look at the photos and details and then make your own choice.
