Antique bishop's staff stabbed wood (1) - Louis XIV - Wood - early 18th century
Late 18th century wood-carved bishop's staff, origin Italy.
The bishop's staff is coated with gold leaf and still has the old original paint layers.
The curvature of the staff is a stylised acanthus leaf with volutes that bend over the curvature as it were.
Underneath a nodus with eggshell motif and underneath a drapery in wood.
The back is flat.
A very special and rare religious object, carved with great craftsmanship. Very elegant.
