Very good condition
Original and authentic shagreen Inro, lacquered Ojime and brass ashtray netsuke - Japan - 19th century
Very good condition, slightly damaged top edge of the back.
This inro consists of 2 parts held together by a silk cord.
It has an ashtray Netsuke, a functional netsuke of the suigaraake-bukuro type with on the side depictions of three stylised water dragons, a single ring as himotoshi adorned with a stylised chrysanthemum.
The Ojime is build up of various layers of lacquer that are polished, which has resulted in different layers of colour.
Shagreen inros such as these are very rare and difficult to produce, the shagreen is polished until all the little studs have disappeared and the surface feels nicely smooth.
Height 93 mm, width 77 mm, thickness 40 mm.
