Painting comes with a book about this artist!
Toon de Haas was born in 1929 on the island of Texel. He lived and worked in Amstelveen since 1955. He has painted in different studios including the Speijckschool and later in a former school building behind the handwegkerk. Nowadays, Toon has a smaller studio opposite the mill, "de Dickert". In this studio, Toon receives famous and less famous inhabitants of Amstelveen, who have themselves portrayed. Every week, a portrait appeared in the Amstelveens weekly magazine. His oeuvre mainly consists of portraits, still lives, and landscapes.
He paints still lifes of the items that he has at hand, such as pots, bottles, a Japanese doll, a mask, a fan, and flowers. Always fresh flowers and preferably painted in watercolour. The studio pieces which De Haas paints as a logical continuation on his still lifes, are no mystically tinted reflections on mortality. They are vital impressions of a trusted workplace where things are basking in light filtered by high windows.
