An Indo-Persian Pesh Kabz (which means 'front handle' in Persian), the T-shaped blade made of hardened steel with a thickened tip for piercing through chainmail, the handle of jade is mounted with bronze or brass. The separator between the jade parts is made of ivory. Pesh Kabz originally is a Persian weapon, designed in the 16th century in answer to the harness and chainmail of the infantry. It quickly became in use in Afghanistan, shortly thereafter the Mughals introduced it in India where it became a commonly used weapon. The level of detail and the costliness of the materials symbolised the status of its bearer. 
Length 41½cm. Dates from ca. 1850 - 1880. 

Condition: Very good, as depicted. 

The seller guarantees this ivory object was made before 1947 and is therefore legally marketable in accordance with the CITES treaty.
