a rare piece!
Mignon AEG no. 4 index typewriter, year: 1923
(Allgemeine Electrizitats Gesellschaft)
The object as you can see from the pictures is in excellent cosmetic and operational condition, quite rare to find these patterns in similar condition.
This model appeared on the market in 1923 as an evolution of previous models produced after 1905.
Longitudinally moving the pointer on the dial with your left hand, it transmits movement to the cylinder that rotates to the position corresponding to the selected character. Lowering the right key the cylinder dashes forward, imprinting the character on the paper in roll. The left button is used for spacing. Inking is done through a ribbon. Through an exhaust system, the carriage holder makes a translocation after each beat of the button, allowing the composition of a line.
The miniature AEG typewriters were the most common among one-button machines, remaining popular until the last year of production in 1934, thanks to the ease of operation, the speed and efficiency of use; an experienced operator could reach the speed of 250-300 characters per minute.
