Gérard Fromanger - Le rouge
Colour silkscreen print
Signed and dated 1970
60 x 90 cm
Gérard Fromanger is, during the events of the year 1968, one of the founders of the Atelier Populaire des Beaux-Arts, born in the night of May 14-15. This workshop produced using screen printing techniques brought from New York by Rougemont, thousands of posters for events, in which artists are joining.
The Album Le Rouge is created just after this period. It follows the series Le Tableau en Question, where the artist has this founding idea: the colour flows. If the poster project representing a french flag with red flowing is refused by the General Assembly of the workshop, it is however praised by Daniel Cohn-Bendit and his ‘movement of March 22’. It also provides the opportunity of a meeting full of promise with Jean-Luc Godard. Curious to meet the author of this work, the creator is working later on many projects with Gérard Fromanger.
