Antique ceremonial axe made with copper and iron, from the SONGYE, with a heavy iron forged blade.
The wooden hilt is wrapped with yellow lizard skin, the iron blade is hand-forged and has an engraved head on each side.
Late 19th to early 20th century – in a good condition.
Dimensions: length of the hilt 31 cm, the iron blade measures 26 x 23.5 cm.
These prestigious axes were often used as a means of payment for transactions and trade.
