Rare INUIT Umiak model from Greenland.
Collected by Aage Essemans between 1914 and 1932.

Umiaks were used for hunting or for the transport of people. 

This is a rare, beautiful piece of my own collection. 
The women in the boat wear the traditional dress. Many details and accessories. 
Umiak models are much rarer the kayaks. 

Length 84 cm.
A few repairs on both sides of the hull.
The last picture is of a similar piece, from the Portland museum (google umiak portlandmuseum).
