C-Print, 2005 - issue 35/100 - signed + Collectors Edition book "Portraits" edition 35/100

The photo (verso signed "Rineke Dijkstra", dated "June 29, 2005", entitled "Chlopy, Poland/July 29, 1995" and numbered "35/100") is attached to the linen map behind a mat with photo corners. This is in the bound photo book "Portraits" (also numbered 35/100), in a sturdy with linen lined case.

Both the photo, as well as the book and the case are in excellent condition, on damage.

Image 20 x 16 cm, photo page 24.2 x 18 cm, photo folder 33.5 x 25.7 cm, photo book 33.5 x 25.7, case 34.5 x 26.5 x 3.7 cm

Rineke Dijkstra (Sittard, 1959) broke through internationally with her impressive portrait series. Her solo exhibition "Portraits" was, among others, shown at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. She gained the most fame with the magisterial beach portraits that consisted of sober, frontal shots of young people on beaches in the United States, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and the Ukraine. The photo "Chlopy" also belongs to this series. Hesitation and uncertainty are visible in attitude and glances and refer to the existential loneliness of adolescents. The bare surroundings, the somewhat low position of the camera and the use of fill-in flashes sharpen the often strong culturally determined details and give the portraits a monumental character.
