Early 20th century - Fair condition
Nicely carved female TEKE fetish figure carrying a burden on the belly.
Height: 25 cm
Teke ancestral figure, also called Buti. Flat head and finely lined tattoo on the face (mabina); an agglomerate of mass in the cavity of the belly (matomba) produces the powerful image.
The Teke figures usually have a trapezoid-shaped beard.
Condition: Fair. Take a good look at the pictures. There is a crack in the wood, around the belly. Part of the load (earth mixed with Tokula powder)has crumbled. We can send the pieces along if you like to piece it back again, and there are also traces of European glue on the back.
Traces of drying out and/or indigenous repairs.
Will be sent by registered mail and insured, with track & trace.
