2nd half of the 20th century - good condition
Beautiful and heavy bronze head of a BENIN king from Equatorial Africa.
The King has the very characteristic BENIN face with numerous tribal scenes and a beautiful hairdo. Benin city was the religious and royal centre of the current Yoruba people.
This statue is of high quality and was made with the cire perdue technique, and is therefore unique in its kind. Beautifully crafted in detail, it has a wonderful patina. Because of the primitive casting process, the figurine presents some casting flaws, have a look at the pictures.
