The painting was recently professionally cleaned.

Bern. A. van Beek lived and worked in Amsterdam until 1911 and then in Kortenhoef. He started out as a decoration painter with his father and then followed an education at the School of Arts and Crafts. He got advice from Evert Pieters, J.H. Wijsmuller and P.J.C. Gabriël. He mostly painted landscapes and cityscapes. He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae and St. Lucas in Amsterdam. He exhibited a.o. in Amsterdam, Arnhem and Rotterdam. His works are part of the collection of a.o. the Goois Museum in Hilversum.
