Maurice Wiliquet (1913-1991) - Man met pet
Maurice Williquet ( Neerlinter 1913 - Laken 1991 ) was a Belgian painter. From 1932 to 1934 he studied at the Academy of Sint-Joost-ten-Node (Brussels) under Henri Ottevaere. In 1935 he developed himself at the drawing school Sint-Lukas in Schaerbeek (Brussels) and from 1941 to 1943, he dedicated himself to the portraiture at the Academy in Tienen.
He was a figurative artist that mostly did plein-air painting art. The inspiration for his forest views was found in the Zoniën forest. In his cityscapes and landscapes you can recognise, among others, Tienen, Grimbergen and St.-Anna-Pede in the Pajotten country; but also the small alleys of Brussels were one of his focus points.
Williquet was also a portrait painter. During and immediately after the second world war a number of American soldiers asked him to make a portrait of themselves or after a picture to paint a portrait of their mother, wife or children. Therefore there are also paintings of him in the USA
