2nd half 20th century - Good condition
Very special and large storage jar in the shape of a monkey by the BULU tribe from Equatorial Cameroon. The monkey is made in wood and hollowed. The skullcap serves as a lid. On top of the head another monkey, keeping the lid of the jar closed. The container was used to store magic items and herbs, the secret ingredients of the medicine man
The sculpture is decorated with kaolin in red-brown, black and white, but time and usage have faded the colours somewhat.
The jar has some wear and dryness cracks, see photos.
