A very nice bronze sculpture titled ‘La Jeunesse’.
It was made as an allegory for the Memorial for Henri Regnault and the students of the School of Fine Arts (l'Ecole des Beaux-Arts), who were killed during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71.
The piece has been made with great craftsmanship by the famous French artist Henri-Michel-Antoine Chapu (1833-1891) who won the Prix de Rome in 1855.
This 19th century sculpture is one of his most renowned works and a similar copy is in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

It has been signed 'H. Chapu' and has a cast stamp with the text 'Reduction Mecanique - A. Collas - Brevette'. It has also been hall-marked by the well-known caster ‘F Barbedienne -Foundeur'.
