We may place a temporary hold on your credit card when you bid on certain high-value objects. This is called a bid reservation and is not a charge.
How bid reservation works
The reserved amount can be up to €1,000 or the equivalent in your currency, no matter how many active bids you have.
If you increase your bid, the reserved amount may also increase. The total reservation will never be more than €1,000.
When may a bid reservation be placed
A temporary hold may be placed if:
- You haven’t completed a purchase on Catawiki before
- Your account is missing required details
- You’re bidding on multiple objects with a significant combined total
When is a hold released
What happens next depends on the outcome of the auction:
- If you’re not the highest bidder, your bank will release the hold automatically within 1 week of the auction ending
- If you’re the highest bidder, the reserved amount will be deducted from your invoice. You need to pay the remaining balance through your Orders page within 3 business days
- If the sale is cancelled, the hold will be released within 10 business days after the cancellation
If you didn’t pay on time
If you were the highest bidder but didn’t pay on time, your order will be cancelled.
To have the hold released and receive a refund:
- You first need to pay the Buyer Protection fee
- Then you need to contact Customer Service
