Héctor Julio Páride Bernabó or Carybé (Lanús, 1911 – Salvador de Bahia,1997) was a painter, engraver, draughtsman, illustrator, potter, sculptor, mural painter, researcher, historian and journalist.
Carybe earned world fame with his colorful paintings of Afro-Brazilian religious cults, including Candomble.
He used strong lines and rich splashes of color to depict mulattoes, pimps and other figures in Brazilian street life as this lithography clearly shows as a perfect example of his work.
His work can be found in important collections around the world like:
- MoMa from New York
- National Contemporary Art Museum - Lisbon (Portugal).
