Dunhill - Aquarium Table Lighter by Ben Shillingford Ca.1950

Ben Shillingfold (1904 - 2000) creator of the lighters Dunhill Aquarium. He began working for Dunhill at the end of the Decade of 1940. The 'Aquarium' collection was launched in 1949 and ceased at the end of the 1950s after the departure of Ben Shillingford, simply because his domain may never be matched. There are no two Aquarium Lighters equal, each and every one of the pieces were handmade, carved, painted and assembled by the same Ben Shillingford. They are jewellery, unique pieces, really it is not known how many he manufactured. These miniature aquariums were created using carved and painted panels. they would be assembled and applied to a lighter body into four sections. Exceptional condition given the age, NO BREAK OR TEAR in Lucite - Some slight signs of wear in chrome plating - Serial number engraved on base that has lost the engraving, it is shown slightly, apart it has the hallmark engraved from the factory - The mechanism works perfectly.
