She recently participated as a driver in the famous 24-hours-of-Nürburgring racing series in Germany and is often seen at car events all over Europe. German actress, Eve Scheer is all about cars! We caught up with her and talked about how her passion came to life and why more women should be into cars. Watch the video below and read on to find out what she had to say.
I might be blond and a girl, but I love racing cars and I want to race Porsches!
Eve was moderating a classic car event for her favourite brand, Porsche when we met her at the Nürburgring. She started out her career as a model, but Eve was quickly discovered as an actress and cast in the popular German soap opera 'Unter Uns'. Following this success, she went on to star in a number of other TV shows and movies, but her true passion is racing cars.
It all began when she was just 12: “My passion for Porsche started when I was quite young. My dad is to blame. He took me to a Formula 1 race! From that moment on I wanted to be a Formula 1 driver and race cars altogether…”
To date, she has participated quite successfully in several racing series such as the Alfa Romeo 147 Cup and of course the 24-Hours-of-Nürburgring.
She drives and competes in her own vintage Porsche, a 1972, 2.4T model which she loves. And she's not the only person who's interested in this car... “People ask me every year, here at the Oldtimer-Grand-Prix: 'can I have it, can I have it?' and I will say, 'no, this is my darling, my baby!' ”
And although many people are still surprised when they see Eve racing, that doesn't hold her back. “It might be a little atypical for a girl. They still give me the looks when I drive up in my old Porsche, but then they say: 'Oh, she's not in the passenger’s seat, she’s a driver herself!'”
I’d love to see more women in racing.
So what does Scheer love so much about special cars such as her Porsche? For one thing, it's the sound: “All you can hear is the original sound of the car. Nothing has been manipulated und that’s very honest in a way and natural. For me it’s just pure joy!”
And what would she say to other women who are curious to try racing? “I’d love to see more women in racing. Not just sitting next to the driver but taking the wheel themselves. There’s no need to be afraid.”
